Students across the State came together for the opening ceremony of the 50th anniversary of Illinois SkillsUSA in Springfield, last Friday, including Kaskaskia College Career and Technical Education students.  Hundreds of competitors competed in their specific fields and by the end of the day students had experienced an unforgettable day.  On Saturday morning, the event ended with closing ceremonies and awards.  Kaskaskia College was represented in Springfield by 20 students and 8 advisors with all 20 students finishing in the top ten of their competitions.  KC brought home 8 first place medals, 7 second place medals, 3 third place medals, and one fourth place recognition for the state.  In addition, Kaskaskia College received an Illinois SkillsUSA 2nd place membership award.  KC students included Katherine Williams of Nashville with a first in Criminal Justice, Steven Tooley of Okawville with a first in Computer Maintenance Technology and Natalie Bergkoetter of Addieville with a first in Cosmetology.  Students placing first place in State competition will now advance to the National SkillsUSA competition, Kansas City, Missouri in June.
