Sharon Jane Owens, 77, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away September 17, 2022 at 7:34 pm at her home surrounded by the love of her family.

Sharon was born April 10, 1945 in Mount Vernon, Illinois, the daughter of the late Lloyd T. and Pauline M. (Cooper) Owens. Sharon’s family was her whole heart.

Her main wish was to be with and spend time with her family. She was of the Baptist faith as a child and at the age of 13, she was baptized at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Sharon loved to take trips with her family and play board games, especially the game Sorry! She was a vicious Sorry player. Sharon enjoyed reading and going for drives in her car. She also loved spoiling her grandchildren and her fur baby, AJ. Sharon was a department manager at Walmart for 21 years until retirement in 2010. In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her grandson, Christopher Lloyd Owens; brother, Roger Wayne Owens; and her grandparents, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces. Sharon is survived by her children, Sandy (Brad) Lowery of Woodlawn, Illinois, Joanne (Roger) Standerfer of Mount Vernon, Kim (Duane) Nollman of Centralia, Kimball Lew-Hanson of Norwalk, Connecticut, Jackie (Rod) Gray of Centralia, Johnna Owens Wyatt of Centralia, and John (Joy) Owens of Belle Rive, Illinois; several grandchildren; siblings, David (Cathy) Owens and Debra (Kenneth) Costello; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Sharon will be remembered for her kindness, gentle spirit, and special way of putting her family first.

A Visitation will be held Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. The Funeral Service will begin at 7:00 pm with Mr. John Willis officiating. Inurnment will take place at Atkinson Cemetery in Mount Vernon at a later date. Memorials may be made in Sharon’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
