WASHINGTON COUNTY –A 57-year-old Irvington man was killed Sunday afternoon when he was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Tower Road in Washington County.
According to Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger, he pronounced Brookman dead at the scene at 1:15 p.m. Styninger says around 12:56 p.m. Sunday, Robert E. Brookman was driving an older model Ford pickup truck north on Tower Road just south of Illinois State Route 177 near Irvington when he unexplainably left the roadway on the east side striking a power pole and then culvert. The vehicle then flipped over multiple times and Brookman, who was unrestrained, was ejected from the truck.
Toxicology samples were obtained by Coroner Styninger for routine testing. The cause of death was blunt force trauma and the manner of death was determined to be accidental. The accident continues to be investigated by the Sheriff’s Department and Coroner’s Office. No further information will be available at this time.
