Richard “RJ” D. Johnson, 38, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 11:28 am November 13, 2022 at  his residence. He was born October 24, 1984 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to Valerie (Burris) Patterson and Robert Dennis Johnson.

Richard is survived by his mother and step father, Valerie and Roger Patterson of Mount Vernon; daughter, Lexi Johnson of Mount Vernon, Illinois; sister, Jessica Baird and husband, Branden of Bluford, Illinois; nieces, Holley Whitlock and husband, Bill, Alison Baird; nephew, Philip Baird; and great-nieces, Karsyn and Lennox Whitlock.

Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew Burris; uncle, Jeff Burris; cousin, Ryan Burris; maternal and paternal grandparents; and close friends, Cody Tate, David Jay, and David Sloan.

Richard was a loving father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He never missed an opportunity to raise hell. Richard was always busy with an array of projects, fixing various things, riding his bike or boat, and spending time with those he loved most. He never met a stranger and was the first to step up and help someone. He could always be found in the shop or asleep somewhere he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A Visitation will be held Friday, November 18, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Middle Creek Cemetery in Dahlgren, Illinois with Reverend Gary Davenport officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Richard’s honor to the Funeral Home for Funeral Expenses or to his daughter, Alexis.
