MARION COUNTY — A 19-year-old Salem man was sentenced Tuesday in Marion County Court to 30 months probation after he pleaded guilty to one of two charges in a case that accused him of shooting his roommate.

Landen McMinn has remained in the Marion County Jail since his March arrest in Salem.

According to Salem police, Salem Township Hospital contacted them after a 20-year-old Salem man was brought to the ER with a gunshot wound to his hand.

An investigation showed the victim was reportedly involved in a fight with McMinn, also known as Landen Williams, while the two were in an apartment at the Salem Village Apartments on West Kell Street.

A disagreement reportedly broke out between the two men and escalated to a physical fight that led to a small caliber pistol being fired.

McMinn was arrested in the case and charged with two Class 3 felonies, one for aggravated battery using a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.

He pleaded guilty Tuesday to the possession charge and in addition to the probation, was sentenced to 110 days in jail with day-to-day credit and credit for time served since his March 2nd arrest.

McMinn has remained in the Marion County Jail since his arrest, with bond set at $75,000.

Judge Mark Stedelin said at the time that he set the bond that high due to the violent nature of the incident, a weapon was involved, and McMinn was unemployed and had been ‘couch hopping’ with relatives in the Salem area after his mother kicked him out of her house in Texas.
