METROPOLIS – A fight Tuesday night at a Metropolis truck stop ended with a western Kentucky man’s arrest for murder.

According to Metropolis Police Chief Harry Masse, at 10p:40 p.m., officers were sent to a fight in progress at Acee’s Truck Stop on East Fifth Street.

Upon arrival, officers saw the victim lying on the floor in the gaming room.

Video surveillance showed the victim had been pepper sprayed seconds before the fight began.

Chief Masse says 36-year-old Jonathon J. Riley of Kirksey, KY was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

The video showed that after the victim was knocked to the ground, Riley choked and then put his knee on the victim’s neck and used the weight of his body to put additional pressure on the victim’s neck until he became unconscious.

Officers initiated first aid measures and the victim was transported to Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.

The victim was pronounced dead at 11:30 p.m. Riley was transported to the Massac County Jail.

Chief Masse says the victim’s identity is not being released until family members are notified.
