INA, IL — A fatal crash closed interstate 57 just north of the Ina exit for over 10 hours Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Illinois State Police say a semi heading south crossed through the median for unknown reasons into the northbound lanes and struck, head-on, another oncoming semi. As a result of the crash both semis caught fire and both cabs were destroyed. Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse pronounced one driver dead at the scene while the other driver was taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to a regional hospital due to major injuries.

The names of both drivers are being withheld at this time.
