MOUNT VERNON — As we prepare to gather for the holiday weekend, it’s important to take time to remember the capacity people have for good and perhaps carry that energy beyond the holiday season.
Locally, many people are reaching out to help others in need — or maybe just to put a smile on someone’s face and in their heart.
Pastor Daniel Nalley of Gospel Encounter in Mt. Vernon is one of those people who reach out to help others. Pastor Nalley says through the church’s mission group, 180 families were helped last weekend with food, toys, coats, scarves, and gloves. He says the goal is to love people and when you love people you want to help them.
Along with business partners such as Dollar General, Rural King, and Culvers, Gospel Encounter at 2901 Veterans Memorial Drive in Mt. Vernon isn’t stopping their work to love people in the community.
Pastor Nalley notes there are still so many requests for help coming in that they plan to have another giveaway in January. They’re still taking donations of new or lightly used coats, hats, scarves, and gloves, along with food and other needed items.
