JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has donated multiple body cameras to the Central City Police Department after they replaced all their units.

According to Jefferson County Chief Deputy Blaine Uhls, Jefferson County had cameras to give and Central City had a need.

Illinois law will require each law enforcement officer to wear a body camera while on duty by January 1, 2025.

Jefferson County recently purchased all new cameras and gave five of their old cameras to the Central City department. The Sheriff’s office will use the remaining cameras for correctional officers in the Jefferson County Jail.
