SALEM — A fire to a Salem business resulted in smoke damage to the building, while all streets downtown were blocked as multiple agencies responded to the scene.

According to Salem fire reports, firefighters were concerned the fire call at Steve’s Antiques at Main and Washington would be large, so multiple agencies were called for mutual aid.

Fortunately, firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to an elevator shaft and quickly knocked down any visible flames on the first floor, but there is smoke damage throughout the building.

All downtown Salem streets were blocked as multiple fire departments staged. The roads were all reopened by early Monday morning.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called to investigate the cause of the fire.
