The Hoyleton Grade School has been seeing enrollment drop over the past few years.  Superintendent Elaine Hemker says earlier this month the Board of Education and concerned citizens were finally able to meet with Dr. Nick Osborne, an educator who goes around to smaller schools with such problems and presents them with options on what to do.  She says the lower number of students also impacts the amount of money the school receives from the government.  Hemker says Osborne told them about consolidation with another district, annexation and dissolution.  Annexation is where the current facility is closed down and the students go into another district with a mutual agreement.  Dissolution is very similar to that, but with both, the Board of Education has some say in what process to use.  Much of the discussion was questions and answers to different scenarios.  Whatever the future holds, Hemker says, one of the Board’s biggest concerns is to take care of the staff.  The next step is to have informational meeting for the community on the future of the school.
